Delete your Rate My Anime account

You can delete your Rate My Anime account at any time. This page explains how, and what happens to your data when you do.

How to delete your account

Option 1: In the app (fastest)

  1. Open the Rate My Anime app on your device.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Tap Delete Account.
  4. Confirm the deletion.

Your account will be marked for deletion immediately. No further action is required.

Option 2: By email

If you no longer have access to the app, or prefer email, send a deletion request to:

Include the following in your message:

  • Subject: Account Deletion Request
  • The email address associated with your account
  • Your display name or username (if you remember it)

We will process your request within 30 days and confirm by email when it’s complete.

What gets deleted

When you delete your account, the following data is permanently removed:

  • Your profile (display name, bio, avatar, banner, country, gender, pronouns, date of birth)
  • Your anime lists (Watching, Completed, Planning, Paused, Dropped, and custom lists)
  • Your ratings and watch progress
  • Your reviews, posts, comments, and replies
  • Your direct messages
  • Your followers and following relationships
  • Your earned badges and profile customization
  • Your push notification tokens
  • Your subscription record (note: this does NOT cancel your Play Store subscription — see below)

What is retained, and why

A small amount of data may be retained after deletion, only for legitimate purposes:

  • Backups may contain your data for up to 90 days after deletion, after which they are permanently purged. This is necessary for disaster recovery and security.
  • Anonymized analytics (e.g. “how many users opened a screen”) may be retained indefinitely. This data contains no personal information that can identify you.
  • Legal compliance data: in rare cases, we may need to retain specific records (e.g. transaction history) to comply with legal obligations such as tax law or fraud investigations. This is the minimum data required by law, no more.

Your Play Store subscription

Deleting your Rate My Anime account does not automatically cancel any active subscription. To stop your subscription:

  1. Open the Google Play Store app.
  2. Tap your profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions.
  3. Find Rate My Anime and tap Cancel subscription.

Or visit play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions.

We cannot cancel your subscription on your behalf — Google manages this directly.

Other data sources

  • AniList data: Rate My Anime fetches anime metadata from AniList. We do not have an AniList account on your behalf, and no data is sent back to AniList about you. There is nothing to delete there.
  • Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics): anonymized crash reports may persist independently. Contact us if you want them removed.
